The Wyoming Military Department is the umbrella agency for the Wyoming Army National Guard, the Wyoming Air National Guard and Wyoming Veterans Commission.

Our mission is to provide ready forces to safeguard Wyoming and protect the nation while adding value to our communities. We do this as one team of dedicated professionals, structured, resourced and always ready to respond as the state and nation’s best. Our agency has adopted “The Code of the West” as our operating philosophy.

The Adjutant General is the agency director and oversees day-to-day operations of the agency’s subordinate departments. The Army and Air National Guard commanders, known as an Assistant Adjutant General, ensure National Guard forces excel at their federal and state missions. The Wyoming Military Department’s deputy director oversees the agency’s state employees, budget process and funding.

Wyoming Veterans Commission

The Wyoming Veterans Commission’s mission is to develop, enhance, and promote programs, services, and benefits for Wyoming veterans and their families, through outreach, education, communication, and legislation. Working in partnership with the Wyoming state government, the Wyoming Military Department, the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, and Veterans Service Organizations, the commission strives to improve the quality of life of every Wyoming veteran.

The Commission was founded in 1981 for the purpose of receiving federal funding to establish the Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery, in Evansville. The Wyoming Veterans Commission has 12 Governor-appointed commissioners who serve for staggered terms from the various Wyoming Judicial Districts.

The commission has oversight of the Veterans Service Officers, Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery, Wyoming Veterans Memorial Museum, Wyoming National Guard Museum, and Military Records.
