Who We Are
HistoriCorps projects are designed to provide volunteers with valuable educational and outdoor opportunities. Volunteers learn preservation trades skills in some of America’s most spectacularly beautiful places, including roof repair and replacement, masonry repointing and repair, log restoration and reconstruction, door and window restoration and much more. While most of our projects do not require any previous work experience, others are designed for the intermediate tradesman looking to learn new skills. Our projects are located in historic and unique places on public lands. Some projects are backcountry and require hiking or horsepacking to get crews and supplies to the site, while other projects have vehicular access. Some sites need basic stabilization or painting, while others need an entire summer for rehabilitation. What all the projects have in common is the opportunity for dedicated volunteers to make a positive difference in the future of threatened historic resources.
Our “project season” generally lasts from April through October, and for a majority of that time we will have 3 or 4 projects running concurrently, with 5-15 volunteers working on each project. Some projects last a weekend, some a week or two weeks, and some a month or more. Volunteers sign up on a per project basis, choosing which project(s) best fit their skills and interests.
What We Do
HistoriCorps is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization engaging volunteers, students, youth, and Veterans in historic preservation projects on public and publicly accessible lands. Since 2009, HistoriCorps has worked in twelve states to preserve over 120 historic buildings and structures, none of which would have been possible without the generous contribution of over 38,000 volunteer hours. We are based in the Rocky Mountain region but coordinate and instruct projects throughout the United States. At the heart of the HistoriCorps program model is the engagement of a broad and diverse cadre of partners and volunteers. By working with constituents, partners and volunteers, HistoriCorps is implementing meaningful solutions that save special places for many generations to come.
