Description

If you like to enjoy our national forests while participating in the management and conservation of local moose populations, then strap on your snowshoes or skis and gather your friends because it is time for Winter Moose Day 2021!

Join the UW Biodiversity Institute on January 23, 2021 in the Pole Mountain area (Vedauwoo and Happy Jack) or Snowy Range outside of Laramie to help us track moose populations. Adopt a route, snowshoe or ski that route on January 23rd, and record all observations of moose or signs of moose. In order to survey while moose are most active, surveys begin at dawn and must be finished by noon.

Moose Day data are given to Wyoming Game and Fish Department to aid in the management and conservation of moose in the area. Moose populations, summer and winter range, and reproductive success aren't well understood in this area of Wyoming. In addition, observations are loaded into iNaturalist for public viewing - you'll be able to see right away where moose were seen!
