Description

General Description:  The Recruiting & Retention Officer is responsible to the unit commander for all matters pertaining to recruiting new Young Marines, Adult Volunteers and retaining the current membership.

Virtual Option: This duty can be done on your schedule with limited attendance at drills.  Drills are typically the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month starting at 2PM.  Drill schedule info can be found on our website: www.cmym.org/events

More Details on duties:

  • Promote Recruitment for youth ages 8-18.
  • Build relationship with potential recruiting areas: back to school nights, fairs & public events with non-profit/youth booth space.
  • Distribute unit info to potential recruits.
  • Assist interested families in filling out enrollment forms.
  • Inform interested families of fundraising and scholarship opportunities to help cover YM Registration fees.
  • Build a partnership with local businesses and organizations willing to help with new recruit sponsorships.
  • Plan and help host (with UC) New Family Meetings for interested Young Marine recruits.
  • Help UC & TO schedule Recruit Training around dates that work best for new recruits.
  • Pinpoint areas of need for specific adult volunteer positions and solicit potential volunteers.
  • Communicate with unit staff and Young Marines about how to retain Young Marines in the unit.
  • Develop a retention plan and suggest how to implement it at staff meetings.

A copy of the Adult Volunteer Manual will be provided upon completion of Adult Volunteer registration.

Minimum national Young Marines Adult Volunteer Requirements:

  1. At least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Maintain the high moral standards and promote a healthy lifestyle as outlined in Article II of the National By-Laws.
  3. Agree to abide by the By-Laws, rules and regulations that govern the Young Marines.
  4. Pay all fees as prescribed by HQYM. (Currently $20 annually.)
  5. Agree to background checks and never have been convicted of a felony.
  6. Submit all documentation in accordance with the Adult Volunteer Policy and Procedure Manual.

Unit additional requirements for all Adult Volunteers:

  1. Attend drills and/or unit activities as required to fulfill the Adult Volunteer role appointed.
  2. Submit quarterly (or monthly, if desired) volunteer hours to be recorded in the YM database.
  3. Attend unit staff meetings at least once a quarter (monthly attendance preferred).
  4. Complete Adult Volunteer Test (online) within 3 months of being approved as an Adult Volunteer.
