Who We Are

Leadership experiences for girls are what make Girl Scouting unique. We help every girl discover who she can be and what she can do, wherever she chooses to put her energies by making these experiences available.

Science and Technology. Activities related to science, technology, engineering, and math now account for over half of all Girl Scout awards. And we introduce more girls to inspiring role models in scientific fields than any other organization.

Financial Literacy. Millions of girls now learn their economic ABCs in Girl Scouts. Setting goals, budgeting, and saving are vital life skills. Sooner or later, 90 percent of all women will have to be financially self-sufficient.

Healthy Living. Girl Scout programs recognize that physical health, emotional health, and self-esteem are all connected. We support the “whole girl.” Nine out of ten girls say our uniquely ME! program helps them make positive changes in their lives.

Environmental Leadership. Girl Scouts combines environmental education with community action on a national scale. Last year, girls worked directly with conservationists and scientists to complete environmental service projects in both states.

Global Citizenship. Girl Scouts makes the world smaller and the girl bigger. Through the world’s largest organization of girls, she can have a global impact and a global voice. The Girl Scouts has full consultative status at the United Nations.

There are many ways to be a Girl Scout. Girls, Adults and Teens can:

Register individually and participate in council-wide programs and opportunities, or

Join or start a troop/group with a group of girls and a couple of adults in your area, or

Sign up for Girl Scout program, camp or another pathway of participation, or

Support local troops by teaching them your unique skills by hosting a program.

Girls can join Girl Scouts at different grade–levels, starting with Girl Scout Daisy (grades K-1) and progressing to Girl Scout Brownie (grades 2-3), Girl Scout Junior (grades 4-5), Girl Scout Cadette ( grades 6-8), Girl Scout Senior (grades 9-10), and Girl Scout Ambassador (grades 11-12).

What We Do

Have you ever thought about how your skills and knowledge could be passed on to girls? We have a place for you!

Every girl has the ability to lead. But only one girl in five believes she can. A lack of role models, unhealthy images of beauty, peer pressure to not stand out, and a mean-girl culture are just some of the obstacles that stand between girls and their full potential. But now that you’re here, girls are one step closer to breaking down those barriers.

The Girl Scout Mission

"Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place."
