Who We Are

Four men from northwest Montana recognized there were a handful of organizations that looked after ducks, turkeys and other wildlife species, but none dedicated to ensuring the future of elk. On May 14, 1984, they pooled their time, talents and resources to officially establish the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. RMEF's mission is to ensure the future of elk, other wildlife, their habitat and our hunting heritage by protecting, conserving, restoring, and enhancing natural habitat.

What We Do

Since its humble beginnings, RMEF has completed nearly 15,000 conservation and hunting heritage projects that have conserved or enhanced more than 9 million acres of habitat across big game country. These efforts have opened or improved public access to more than 1.6 million acres—many once completely off-limits to hunters. Fueled by dedicated members, passionate volunteers, and conservation partners, RMEF continues to lead the charge in Conserving America’s Big Game™—ensuring healthy habitat, abundant wildlife and lasting access for future generations to experience the traditions we cherish.
