October 21st thru 25th 2013, Campbell County 8th and 10th grade students will be participating in the 7th annual Life RU Ready? life simulation maze - during their school day. At this event students experience simulated peer pressure related to drugs and alcohol and then interact with community professionals to learn about the unintended consequences of choosing to experiment with these substances. The maze is set up to be fun and interactive while at the same time delivering a serious message.
Life RU Ready? is not meant to be a stand-alone event. It is meant to get teens thinking about the real life consequences of peer pressure and poor decisions related to drug and alcohol use -- so that teachers and parents can then continue the discussion.
We need volunteers to help staff the various consequences areas that the students encounter as they go through the life simulation maze. We pair volunteers with local community professionals who bring to life consequences related to drug and alsohol use such as; legal trouble, a car accident, drug or alcohol addiction, death, suicide, teen pregnancy and even STD's. We also have a "Safe Zone" and a wellness area community professionals lead discussions about healthy alternatives.
