Families are invited to their school, sign in, and are then directed to the gym. Once in the gym, families form a line to be served the cooked meal. After about 45 minutes, the kids are escorted to another area to have a celebrity reader read a book to them. The parents are then able to receive information from visiting agencies, organizations, and college; there is a question and answer session after the presentations. The kids are allowed to pick out a free book to take home them, and are reunited with their parents. The families then form another line to receive the Healthy Family Supplement bags that have been pre-bagged for them, along with literature from agencies and Book & a Bite.
We need volunteers for:
- Unloading the food bank truck and bringing the food to the designated distribution area.
- Unloading, counting, and setting out the books for the kids onto tables in the reading area.
- Setting up tables.
- Sign-in sheet monitor.
- Serving the prepared meal (buffet style).
- Handing out the Healthy Family Supplement bags.
- Handing out the literature.
- Break-down/clean-up after event.
