Description

General Description:  Activity Medical Officer (AMO) is responsible to the unit commander for all matters pertaining to the health of the Young Marines attending drills and events.  There are two Adult Volunteers designated as AMO at each event.

Drills are typically the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month starting at 2PM.  The AMO is expected to attend one drill a month and/or additional dates/activities as needed.  Drill schedule info can be found on our website: www.cmym.org/events

More Details on duties (shared between two AMOs):

  • Checks-in all medications at beginning of drills/events.
  • Conducts health checks as needed at events.
  • Administers medication, as needed, to Young Marines at designated times.
  • Completes required medication and health bay paperwork after administering to a Young Marines' medical needs.
  • Assists with teaching Basic First Aid classes semi-annually.

A copy of the Adult Volunteer Manual will be provided upon completion of Adult Volunteer registration.  The manual goes through how to complete each of the tasks listed above.

Minimum national Young Marines Adult Volunteer Requirements:

  1. At least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Maintain the high moral standards and promote a healthy lifestyle as outlined in Article II of the National By-Laws.
  3. Agree to abide by the By-Laws, rules and regulations that govern the Young Marines.
  4. Pay all fees as prescribed by HQYM. (Currently $20 annually.)
  5. Agree to background checks and never have been convicted of a felony.
  6. Submit all documentation in accordance with the Adult Volunteer Policy and Procedure Manual.

Unit additional requirements for all Adult Volunteers:

  1. Attend drills and/or unit activities as required to fulfill the Adult Volunteer role appointed.
  2. Submit quarterly (or monthly, if desired) volunteer hours to be recorded in the YM database.
  3. Attend unit staff meetings at least once a quarter.
  4. Complete Adult Volunteer Test (online) within 3 months of being approved as an Adult Volunteer.
